This year’s LevFest went off with a bang! After a slippery false start, the school came out in full force to celebrate sporting and musical talent – as well as, this year, climate preservation! All houses gave their all in all aspects of the day, with Moore eventually coming out on top.
The annual banner and flag competitions were won this year by 12C and 8R respectively, judged again this year by the art department. Students were also challenged in the morning to design water bottles in order to make LevFest more sustainable, a message reflected across the entire event through the involvement of the new Environment Committee and the Prefect Team. This, plus the stalls selling house attire on Wednesday all made the lead-up to LevFest bigger than ever before!
Moore took an early lead in the day, winning both Year 7 and Year 12 rounders, and only built on it throughout the day. Wilkins clawed back some early points in track and field, with wins from both Kadir Durak and Chloe Simpson 12W (whose interviews you can find in our LevFest feature). The warmer-coloured houses excelled more in the field aspect of the day, with Cutforth and Fawbert taking notable victories in the long jump and javelin across the year groups - Head Student Samson Brichieri-Colombi in particular doubled the school record for javelin and set a new 11.29m record in the long jump!
Music and dance performances were littered throughout the day, with encores enthusiastically requested of Faultline, the Y11 Band, Face for Radio and the school’s resident function bands. We spoke to Guy Anthony and Charlie Wiltshire, who both reflected on the importance of LevFest in their school calendar.
Overall, this year’s LevFest was a roaring success. Walking around the ‘pens’, students were enthusiastic and eager to get involved with interviews and photos and showed real school spirit. Bring on next year!
